August's full moon is traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon by Native American tribes in view of the season it was mostly abundance in the Great Lakes. But here in Greece, late August means one very specific thing: peak holiday season.
While the islands are packed, Athens becomes blissfully quiet. The daily traffic vanishes, the pace slows down, and the city takes on a completely different charm. Whether you are a local enjoying the peace of an empty capital, or a visitor looking to escape the crowded tourist traps, there is absolutely no better time to claim the mountain. With sunset and moonrise happening almost simultaneously just before 8:00 PM, we will have the cool, pine-scented trails practically to ourselves to watch this spectacular glowing sphere rise over a beautifully quiet metropolis!
Who is this for?
This is a Level 2/5 (Easy) hike. It is perfectly suited for beginners, solo adventurers looking to disconnect, and families with children aged 7 and above (accompanied by a guardian). No previous hiking experience is required—just a positive attitude and the right shoes!

Logistics at a Glance

- Meeting Time: 18:45 (Hike starts at 19:00 sharp. Expected end time: ~21:30)
- Location: Mount Parnitha (The exact Google Maps pin will be sent exclusively to registered attendees 24 hours prior to the event).

- Distance: ~6,5 km circular hike | Elevation Gain: ±200m

Required Gear
To ensure you have a safe and amazing experience, please come prepared:
- Footwear: Hiking boots, trail running shoes, or sturdy athletic shoes with excellent grip. (Strictly NO flat sneakers, canvas shoes, or sandals).
- Lighting: A headlamp (with extra batteries).
- Clothing: Comfortable sports clothing and a light jacket, fleece, or softshell. (Note: Temperatures on the mountain are typically 6-8°C cooler than in central Athens).
- Hydration & Energy: A small backpack with 1-1.5L of water, high-energy snacks (nuts, energy bars), and a small bag for your personal trash.

PARTICIPATION TERMS, IMPORTANT POLICIES & KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
By completing your registration, you confirm that you have carefully read, understood, and fully accepted the Terms of Participation below as well as the general Participation Terms. These rules apply universally, regardless of the reason.
- The Briefing: You will receive our signature "Know Before You Go" email detailing the exact meeting point and final instructions exactly 1 day before the event. Please read it carefully.
- Self-Drive & Punctuality: Since you are arranging your own transportation to the mountain, it is entirely your responsibility to arrive at the designated meeting point at the exact time communicated. Our activities start EXACTLY on schedule.
- If You Are Late: We run a very punctual schedule. If you arrive and cannot find us, you have missed the start of the hike! In this case, we recommend simply relaxing in nature until we return (the trail is circular, so we end exactly where we begin). For your own safety, do not attempt to hike unknown trails alone.
- Name Changes: If you wish to transfer your ticket to a friend, name changes are permitted up to 12:00 PM the day before the event, subject to a €5 administration fee, by contacting us at [email protected].
- Date Transfers: If this specific adventure is repeated on future dates, existing registrations or deposits cannot be transferred to the new dates. Standard cancellation policies apply to each date independently.
- Cancellation: Tickets are strictly personal, non-refundable, non-transferable to other dates or adventures, and non-redeemable for funds or vouchers regardless of the reason. No exceptions are made. Emails requesting exceptions to this rule will not receive a reply.
- Safety & Itinerary Modifications: ACTIVE Sundays fully complies with all safety regulations set by the Authorities. We reserve the right to modify, reroute, or partially/fully cancel the program—including executing an alternative route or shifting to a more touristic profile—due to weather conditions, access issues, or unforeseen emergencies. SAFETY IS OUR ABSOLUTE PRIORITY. If the itinerary is adjusted for safety, the service is considered fully rendered. Such modifications do not entitle participants to monetary refunds, vouchers, date transfers, or any other form of compensation.
- Government Restrictions (e.g., Fire Danger): If Authorities ban access to the National Park/area (e.g., due to extreme fire risk, high winds, or public health measures) the adventure will be rescheduled or canceled, and you will be notified via Email and SMS. In this scenario, you will have the option to either transfer your ticket to the new date OR receive a 30-60 day credit voucher for the amount paid, minus a €5 non-recoverable system processing fee (plus any unrecoverable third-party booking costs). No monetary refunds or further compensations will be issued under these circumstances.
- Liability Waiver: By registering, the participant automatically and fully releases ACTIVE Sundays, its leaders, coordinators, volunteers, and partners from any and all liability, without limitation, and explicitly waives any claims against the aforementioned parties for unrendered services or otherwise.
